Welcome to The T Word

If you’ve found your way here, thank you.

I’m a mum, partner, co-parent, and someone whose life took a path I never imagined.

Several years ago, our family heard the words no parent ever expects to hear: your child has a brain tumour.

Life became hospital wards, waiting rooms, scans, uncertainty, hope, fear, and learning to celebrate even the smallest victories.

Although treatment eventually ended, I discovered that the story didn’t.

Recovery isn’t a finish line, and “normal” doesn’t simply return.

For a long time, I kept much of this to myself.

Alongside that journey, we’ve navigated the realities of parenting children with additional needs, advocating for the support they deserve, and finding ways to hold ourselves together through challenges that often remain invisible to others.

For a long time, I kept much of this to myself.

But I’ve realised that stories have the power to help us feel less alone.

If something I’ve experienced can make one parent feel understood, one family feel seen, or one person better understand what life can look like after childhood illness, then sharing it is worthwhile.

This isn’t a place for perfect answers. It’s a place for honest conversations.

Here, I’ll be writing about:

  • Our journey through childhood brain tumour diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
  • Life after remission and what people don’t always see.
  • Parenting children with additional needs.
  • The realities of advocacy, education and family life.
  • The small moments of joy that exist even in difficult seasons.
  • Hope, resilience, and the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

Some posts will be deeply personal. Others will offer practical advice or reflections that I hope are helpful to other parents and carers.

Whether you’re here because you’ve walked a similar road, you’re supporting someone who has, or you’re simply curious to understand more, I’m grateful you’ve joined me.

Thank you for reading.

I’m looking forward to sharing this journey with you.
